Batwoman: Casting news/rumors #1 – Wallis Day, Katy O’Brian, Peyton List?

This is post 1 of 2 for today!

After the smashing news that Ruby Rose has left the show more and more casting rumors are circling aroud the web.

Looks like the CW is (seemingly) looking for:

– an actress that already was/is on CW shows

– an actress that looks at least a little bit like Ruby

 – an actress from the LGBTQ community

– age and height are also criteria of course

– at least a good physical fitness ( I would say)

I read about some names quite often and wanna present the 3 of them that would fit in my opinion:

(without particular order)

Wallis Day

  • mostly known for her roles in Krypton and The Royals, Hollyoaks (no CW connections)
  • 25 years, 5ft 8 ½ (174 cm)
  • IMDB-link

(click to enlarge to full size)

Pros:

– a pretty tall woman, which would fit good to being a bad-ass vigilante (in my opinion)

– very young, a long perspective

– looks like she could be Alice’s sister

– LGBTQ (like the CW wants)

Minus:

– no CW connections so far

An artist already put her into the Batwoman cowl (an old version of it):

— Link to the artist —

My opinion:

Haven’t seen her so on the screen so far, but certainly a really good choice as she fits in mosts criterias!

———————-

Katy M. O’Brian

  • Mostly known from her roles in Walking Dead, Z Nation and Black Lightning (CW)
  • Age: UNKWON(!?!), 5’7″ (1,70 m)
  • IMDB link

(click to enlarge to full size)

https://twitter.com/i/status/1264021013789962241

^^^ She can kick some serious ass! ^^^

Pros:

– has played in a CW show

– extremely fit! Would make a highly believable ass-kicking vigilante!

– LGBTQ (like the CW wants)

– age seemingly fits(?)

Minus:

– was already in an Arrowverse show. Even her character seems to not appear again in Black Lightning….it might look at least odd for some folks to see her in another role in the Arrowverse

– doesn’t really look much like she could be Alice’s sister

My opinion:

Another good fit, especially with her highly trained body!  The aspect that she played another character in an Arrowverse show…might be a problem?

—————————

Peyton List (Peyton E. List)

  •  mostly known for her roles 90210 (Lindsey Beckwith), The Tomorrow People (Cara Coburn), The Flash (Lisa Snart/Golden Glider)
Charmed (Nadia) (all CW), Picard and Gotham
  •  33 years, 5ft 6 ½ (168 cm)
  • IMDB link

Pros:

– has played in a CW show

– looks like she could be Alice’s sister

– age fits, height is ok too

Minus:

– LGBTQ (like the CW wants) ????

– fit enough ????

My opinion:

Some question marks remain! But she does fit in most criterias.

————-

Other names I read VERY often these days were Stephanie Beatriz and Rachel Skarsten.

I don’t think they would fit at all.

Beatriz is already 39, way too old for such a highly physical role in a TV show that should last some seasons. And she wouldn’t fit at all to Alice and Jacob.

And the idea of choosing Rachsel Skarsten to play 3 roles as Alice, Kate and Batwoman…is beyond absurd 😆

I am wondering how far they actually are in the re-casting process?

However it will be highly interesting to see who they choose!

I will keep you posted.

Any comments on the 3 above?

Or do you have another suggestion that fits in the criterias?

Batwoman Special – Ruby Rose has left the Batwoman show!

*EDIT*

(This text represents the knowledge on May 20 – They seemingly developing a new character for the role as Batwoman)

This will be a rather long text…but I just have a lot to say about the latest news on the Batwoman show.

I woke up some hours ago I turned on my phone for a quick check if something interesting happened while I was asleep.

Oh boy! My jaw dropped right to the floor! Really? Is that news for real? No joke? Oh my…..!!!!

As a HUGE fan of the show, this news hit me like a train. And that after the news from last week with the January start date and the final episode of the season.

The lead actress of the show is leaving after season 1?!

This is something verrrry unusual as this just (normally) doesn’t happen.

I can’t think of many examples where that has happened in a TV show. OK, for example…in the Spartacus tv-show the main actor was replaced, but because he was very ill, as he had cancer. Certainly not a case that compares to this one. I’m sure there are some other examples, but not really from TV shows that I follow/ have followed.

Here is the statement of Ruby:

I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.

Here is the statement of WB:

Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best. The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.

Well, there are no reasons given for why she has left the show. Right now I can only speculate:

– Was it because of her injuries that forced her to leave nearly all action scenes to the stunt team? That was denied by some sources.

– Was it because of all the hate the show receives from the trolls and haters? Maybe

– Was it because she doesn’t feel good working on a TV show instead of movies as it is quite the difference?

– Perhaps it was too expensive to keep her? I would say no, as these contracts are surely made for a long run and not only for one season.

– Was the network not happy about her in the role?

Well, I do hope that at some point we may get an answer to why she left, but I think that won’t happen anytime soon

Actually, there were some signs that something like that might happen.

Oddly enough I thought some months back about the possibility of a recast for her role. But quickly I thought that things like that don’t happen, so I discarded that thought quickly.

I was wondering why Ruby was doing so few promo events in the past months. I mean Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson and Rachel Skarsten did make a lot of promo for the show…on their social media accounts, on takeovers on Instagram, promo videos on youtube and so on. And Ruby, as the lead actress….only showed up on rare occasions. OK, I thought about if she had some sort of clause in her contract that she doesn’t have to do such things. But I thought it was highly unusual.

Last week the CW released this promo image that I posted last week as well:

And I was thinking: Is that really Rube Rose on that picture as Batwoman??? I still think it isn’t Ruby Rose!

Last week I thought: Ok, Ruby couldn’t come to this promo shot because of the pandemic and all. I thought this might just be a random woman that was taken for a quick promo picture and they thought that no one would notice with the cowl on her head. But with the news that Ruby leaves the show….this image was perhaps a big, fat sign of the things to come….

What do I think about Ruby and her part on the show?

Well, I’m a HUGE fan of the show as you should know by now. And I will remain a HUGE fan until the end of the show, no matter what happens.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of her being chosen for the role….at first. I mean in her roles in Meg, Resident Evil (Final chapter), XXX 3 and John Wick 2 her acting….was ok for me, but there was certainly room for improvement.

But I think the role really grew on Ruby and her acting improved over the season to a good level. Yet, Ruby always remained somehow in the shadow of Rachel Skarsten in my opinion. Ok, that may be because of the role as Alice is very different of course and offers a bigger variety.

I really like Ruby as an actress and as a human, but I am not a hardcore fan like so many seem to be (15 million followers on Instagram alone!).

What does this mean for the Batwoman show?

Well, it will be VERY ODD to see someone else in that role! But I am sure that I will get used to it when they drop all the promo images and vidoes ahead of season 2.

I hope that I am already “used” to the new actress when the new season starts.

The recast of Kate Kane/Batwoman is a BIG DANGER …..and A HUGE CHANCE at the same time!

Everything depends on WHO they actually choose for the role! It can get a disaster…..but it can also be also be a BIG chance!

WB and CW now have to be really careful of who to choose.

*EDIT* After thinking about it for a while, I do understand the wish for an actress from the LGBTQ community, it makes sense and it will be an important sign.

I don’t have candidates right now, since I don’t know about 99% of the actresses if they are gay or not, as I don’t care about it.

My wishes for the casting would be like this:

– A rather tall and verrrrry well-trained actress, as it would fit really good to a crime-fighting vigilante (in my opinion)

– An actress with an already established fanbase that then follows the show as well (like with Ruby)

– A woman that looks at least a little bit like Ruby….so that the transition gets a little easier

Surely many of the trolls and haters that this show attracted with a lesbian, badass, jewish woman with short hair in the lead role….might celebrate this recast as some kind of “victory” of their pathetic, hateful, troll-agenda. But actually, if they cast wisely….this can turn into the stellar opposite….a smashing DEFEAT for those creatures.

It’s really sad how many folks are seemingly just on “social” media to spread their hateful opinions as they love to pull down others. But enough of that….

I know she won’t read it…but I just wanna thank Ruby Rose for all that she has put into this show. THANKS RUBY!

My limited English can’t really express how grateful I am for you being on the show. But you brought Batwoman and Kate Kane to life in your very own, unique way.

And whoever will follow your footsteps….you were the first Batwoman! I will never forget that 🙂

However, we will get a new actress for the role as Batwoman and Kate Kane and the show will continue!

Ruby Rose has left the show….but BATWOMAN will return!

*EDIT*

There has been a new article, that might why she did it:

https://tvline.com/2020/05/20/ruby-rose-batwoman-season-2-departure-scoop

Hard to say if that’s the truth unless it will be confirmed by someone.

Batwoman Special – Preview for the final episode of season 1 ….and more

Post 2 out of 2 for today!

I mostly recovered from the shock that Batwoman’s second season starts in January 2021 instead of the fall later this year.

Due to the Corona virus they simply can’t shoot soon enough to keep the usual fall start of (most of) their Arrowverse shows.

On the good side CW president Mark Pedowitz mentioned that they -nonetheless- intend to give the Arrowverse shows “full” seasons with up to 22 episodes.

Normally the CW shows which start in January only get up to 13 episodes so they would be all aired before the summer.

Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow starting even later in “midseason” which should be in March/April.

If these two will get short seasons with only 13 episodes….the other Arrowverse shows which start 2 or 3 months earlier in January…should have more episodes as they simply have more time to air episodes. IF all of these shows end around the same time which they should.

So, if Batwoman’s second season would get a full season with around 20 episodes, it would air until July or even August.

Of course I would love as many episodes as possible in this second season.

I would be already ok with 16 episodes….but 18 or more episodes would be really great!

To have to wait 3 months longer for new episodes is one bad thing.

But….IF we get a (nearly) full season after all, I would be very happy!

In the end the most important aspect is how many episodes the season will actually get.

———————-

Let’s focus on the final episode of the show, which will be shown on the CW today (starting tomorrow on the app/cw site)!

Here is the trailer:

With the knowledge of the last episodes, the synopsis and pictures for this final episode of the season…..this should become a worthy, tragic, emotional finale to this season!

What will Alice, Hush and Mouse do? Are they ALL willing to kill Batwoman?

Why do the Crows capture Mary?

Why is Kate crying? Something really horrible must have happened! Was she unmasked by the Crows? Was someone hurt or even killed that she cares for?

Will Sophie and Julia be able to save Batwoman (if needed)?

What’s with the kryptonite? Will it be used in some weapon? How will the villains get kryptonite?

Will someone not survive the episode?

I am soooo thrilled about this episode! I am expecting a tragic and dramatic episode with a solid cliffhanger at the end.

Also I’m sad about it….just as it is the last new Batwoman episode for nearly 8 months.

My favorite scenes from the trailer:

(cropped images from the trailer – click to enlarge)

Batwoman Season 2 news…..

…and really bad ones this time:

Season 2 of Batwoman starts in January…not in the fall as planned. DAMN Corona!!!!!

https://dctv.news/cw-schedule-changes-to-january-smaller-crossover

Supergirl and Legends are starting even later….in “midseason”…I guess around March/April.

Now I’m depressed.
Luckily the day here is over soon.

Masks Off #40! – One of the weirdest unmaskings in comic history! [Batwoman]

Today, this is post 1 of 2 for today!

First I wanna present one of the weirdest unmaskings in comic history!

In this old comic Kathy Keene is married to Bruce Wayne and wants to assist him as a crime fighter.

She puts on a Batman costume she fixed so that it would fit her and becomes the first Batwoman.

But soon there is trouble….

(click to enlarge the image to full size)

Well, that is weird for quite some reasons!

Seemingly her cowl isn’t attached to her cape! Why is that? And it just flies away? It doesn’t tear or rip?

This way it looks like her cowl was some kind of hat without a chin strap or a connection to the cape.

And you clearly see the age of this comic, she is a rather helpless woman, stumbles on the scene, calls Batman “darling”, gets unmasked and thereby ruins his carreer as well…just in a matter of seconds.

The current Batwoman (from the comics and the TV show) was a highly modified version of this one and debuted in 2006.

I used to know from which comic issue this was taken….

Can someone who knows help out here? I would add that info to the post.

And now I wanna present a newer and modified version that focuses on the UNMASKING from a talented artist made on DeviantArt:

In this one the whole cape flies away, what makes at least a lot more sense!

However “unmasked by a wind machine” is still a very ODD unmasking type 😉

You should check out more of his work, as he focuses on masked heroines and their unmaskings:

What do you think of this unmasking and the different version of this scene?

Batwoman Special – Preview for the last two episodes of the season

Only two more episodes of Batwoman, and there is a trailer for the next episode on sunday available and also synopsises and promo pictures for both episodes!

And especially the trailer and the promo pictures offer a lot of highly interesting questions!

I only present official promo material, but I present my ideas about what might happen….

…So….. POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!

Let’s start with episode 19 that will air on Sunday 10th:

Trailer:

The synopsis:

CRACKING THE CODE – When members of Gotham’s intelligentsia begin disappearing, Commander Kane (Dougray Scott), Sophie (Meagan Tandy) and the Crows go searching for the newest homicidal threat to the city. In the meantime, Kate (Ruby Rose) is consumed with someone’s betrayal and starts questioning the loyalty of everyone around her just when she needs them most. So when Luke (Camrus Johnson) and Julia (guest star Christina Wolfe) go missing, Batwoman must rely on Mary (Nicole Kang) and a former foe to deploy her rescue mission. Meanwhile, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) enlists Tommy Elliot (guest star Gabriel Mann) to help acquire an elusive item that her sister also seeks. Greg Beeman directed the episode written by Jerry Shandy and Kelly Larson (#119). Original airdate 5/10/2020.

Promo pictures:

————————–

Episode 20 will air on Sunday 17th:

There is no trailer for the final episode yet, as they are released when one episode was aired.

But the synsopis and the promo pictures are VERY interesting!

The synopsis:

SEASON FINALE – When one of Gotham’s former heroes returns to his old stomping grounds to settle a score, both Batwoman (Ruby Rose) and Commander Kane (Dougray Scott) find themselves on the defensive. Meanwhile, Alice (Rachel Skarsten) has uncovered what could finally take down Batwoman, but she is losing hold on her henchman Mouse (guest star Sam Littlefield) and Hush (guest star Gabriel Mann), sending her spiraling into her most wicked self. Luke (Camrus Johnson) immediately focuses on finding a way to protect Batwoman from Alice, and Mary (Nicole Kang) has a chance to be the sister Kate has needed all along. New information surfaces, forcing Julia (guest star Christina Wolfe) to warn Sophie (Meagan Tandy) about the person pulling the strings. And in a final standoff, when Commander Kane refuses to retreat from his war on Batwoman, Kate may find herself more than heartbroken by her father’s choices. Amanda Tapping directed the episode written by Holly Henderson and Don Whitehead (#120). Original airdate 5/17/2020.

Promo pictures:

http://batwomantv.com/batwoman-season-finale-photos-o-mouse/

>>> So, if you combine all these infos together, a LOT of questions can be asked! <<<

– What are the goals of Hush, Alice and Mouse? Seems that the are different. And I guess that Hush and Mouse do wanna hunt down Batwoman! And Alice doesn’t want that, even Kate locked her up in Arkham, I’m sure she doesn’t want Kate to be killed. Also Alice and Mouse know who Batwoman is! Will they tell Hush? Or will he find out about Kate Kane’s night job on his own? What will happen with Mouse? The last episode is called “O, Mouse!” and I somehow have a strong feeling that Mouse won’t survive, as Alice might have to choose between Mouse and her sister. I’m sure that Mouse will be a thread to Batwoman and that she will side with her sister in the end.

– What happens between Batwoman and Jacob? It clearly seems that they collide and Jacob now really does want Batwoman to be taken down! What will happen? Will he find out who Batwoman is under that mask? I wouldn’t be totally surprised if he will even die in the season finale as it is mentioned how heartbroken Kate is! But I would rather say that he will survive….And I would love if Jacob would at least try to unmask Batwoman! I don’t want Kate to tell him her secret…..that would be really the worst solution.

– What kind of weapon can be found in that journal? Seemingly it is a BIG danger to Batwoman. Why does Alice want it? Why is Julia and her mysterious contact after it?

– Who is Julia working for? Is it Safiyah? That might be the safest bet….

– The promo pictures indicate that both Julia and Luke gets kidnapped! They may want Luke for decoding the journal….but what do they want with Julia?

– Who is that former hero of Gotham that the synopsis for episode 20 is mentioning? Of course my dream scenario would be Batgirl….but that chance is slim….very slim. But what about her father? I think the chances are not too bad that Jim Gordon will show up! Or will it be one of the other vigilantes from the Bat-family? I hope the trailer for the episode will show us something!

– Why is Parker in the Batcave? I guess she will try to decode that journal too….but therefore team Batwoman would need to get it first.

– What will happen between Julia, Sophie and Kate? Kate wasn’t happy about seeing them together in the trailer….

– Also what about Reagan? Will Kate forgive her? Will Magpie show up again?

Oh man, I expect a lot of twists and tragedy from these last two episodes of the season!

And hopefully a BIG, nail-biting cliffhanger!

Can’t wait!

Batwoman Special, April 24

Some updates on the Batwoman TV show:

Finally the new episode is around the corner and airs on sunday.
Damn, that was a long 5 weeks without new episodes. Can’t imagine how long the break between the seasons will feel. 🙁
This sunday episode 17 will air, here is the trailer:

Sunday next week episode 18 will air.
Synopsis here:
https://batwoman.tv/if-you-believe-in-m … u-synopsis

A reliable source say the season has 20 episodes (instead of the 22 that were planned before the Virus).
These episodes will be aired weekly until the final episode of season 1 on May 17.
So there will be 4 new episodes in the next 23 days!

And here is a new poster for the show:

(click to enlarge to full size)

I am really happy about the return of the show and hope that they can start filming again in the summer somehow, so the second sesason can be aired as usually from october onwards.

*EDIT* Update, April 25:

Two of the Promo pictures for episode 18, more details below….

(click to enlarge to full size)

These are some of the fresh promo images from episode 18, which will be shown on May 3rd.
Damn, what a sexy situation that is perfect for a lot of possible, sexy outcomes!
Noticed that barrel of money in his hand.
What is the guy up to?
Does he want to sell Batwoman to the highest bidder?
Does he want to sell her UNMASKING to the highest bidder?
How was she captured?
How will she get out of this?

Personally I would love to see him reaching for her mask, yanking a little on it while Batwoman starts to panic.
Then, just before the mask comes off, she gets saved by someone.
I guess that won’t happen….but however, this will be a verrrrrrrry, sexy and perilous scene!

P.S.: Seems they get fond of tying her up. She was already tied up in episode 13 (“Drink me”) as Nocturna captured her 🙂
