Batwoman news: Casting news, pictures and DC Fandome reminder

Before the Batwoman Panel on the DC Fandome will be available in barely 34 hours from now…

https://schedule.dcfandome.com/e/5f343a57ad87080017244a14

….with some major news….there are already some news to post before!

Safiyah has been casted for the show!

https://deadline.com/2020/09/batwoman-shivaani-ghai-recur-the-cw-superhero-series-1234574512/

In the show it seems that Alice is her main enemy. In the comics Kate Kane/Batwoman has a complicated relationsship with her…but as Kate isn’t around anymore (at least for a while until she comes back 😉 ) it seems that Alice will have to face her. Safiyah was already mentioned on some occasions in season 1, will be interesting to see what her goal is in the TV show.

I don’t know the actress so far, but I am looking forward to see her on screen.

One week has passed since they had started shooting season 2.

And of course some pictures show up on social media.

Here are my two favorites from the last days:

Alice is back in action! 🙂

Meagan Tandy has posted this picture:

I wonder how her role will change in season 2….

On sunday I will make a big post about season 2 of Batwoman as there should be some juicy news to post about from saturday 😉

Batwoman news: Filming for season 2 has finally started + DC Fandome

Today is a special day!

Today, on Septemper 3rd, the filming for season 2 of Batwoman has begun!

After the pandemic stopped the filming at the end of season 1 in mid-march and thereby cut the season short (20 episodes instead of 22)….the cameras are finally rolling again.

So a break of nearly 6 months comes to an end. Normally season 2 would have started next month, but that was of course changed as well as they just couldn’t film in the last months.

With the start of the filming we will get finally some more info on season 2 as it was very quiet the last weeks.

And the Batwoman panel on the 2nd DC Fandome is just 9 days away (September 12)!

It has 40 minutes and should bring some interesting news for sure! Especially I’m curious to see Javicia Leslie and her new Batwoman costume.

So, the next weeks should get really interesting when it comes to Batwoman news! 🙂

DC Fandome – August 22/23 + September 12/13

[Post 2 of 2 for today!]

The DC Fandome is on the next weekend (August 22 and 23), time to make another post about it!

*EDIT* News came in yesterday that most of the TV shows and everything besides the movie panels are moved to a second date: September 12th!

What is the DC Fandome?

2… 24 hours virtual cons, entry free, watchable across the globe with lots of panels on upcoming DC shows and movies….and much more…

Here you can fix your own schedule so you know when to watch something you are interested in:
https://schedule.dcfandome.com/

Regular website:
https://dcfandome.com/

Of course the Batwoman panel in the Watchverse is THE main attraction for me, no doubt!
It will have 40 minutes and the cast will discuss season 1 and give a sneak peek into season 2. I also expect that we see promo material of Javicia in the costume for the first time!

Besides that I am thrilled about the Wonder Woman 1984 panel and the “The Batman” panel (hope to finally see the Catwoman costume)!
And of course the other Arrowverse shows will have interesting panels as well!
I am hoping for some juicy trailers, interesting talks and great promo material!

I already made a schedule for the event…..well, I am sure I won’t get much sleep in these 24 hours….

Which panels do you wanna watch?

P.S.:

I pre-ordered the UK Blu-ray set and I am looking forward to watch the whole season once again!

I am curious about the bonus material on those discs, espceially the deleted scenes from the episodes are verrrry interesting for me!

P.S.:

Regarding season 2 of Batwoman there wasn’t anything to post about in the last weeks.

But that will change pretty soon since the DC Fandome is around the corner (August 22)!

I expect some major announcements for season 2 and also some promo images of Javicia Leslie in her new costume! 🙂

The new Batwoman…. is …. Javicia Leslie!

Well, the last weeks were pretty quiet around the second season of Batwoman…. untitl NOW!

I thought this casting news would be presented at the DC Fandome event next month, but here it is already:

The new Batwoman (aka Ryan Wilder) has been found!

First, here are some facts about Javicia Leslie:

– She is 33 years young and 5′ 3½” (1,61 m)

– She is bisexual

– She was actually born in Augsburg, Germany (#yeah) and moved to the US as a young child

– Javicia has already (lead) TV experience as she played in TV shows such as “God Friended Me”, “The Family Buisness” and “McGyver”

– According to IMDB “Javicia Leslie is also trained in Muay Thai, Boxing, Weapons, Dance, Track, and Swimming and regularly trains in an extensive Fitness Bootcamp”.

Some pictures of Javicia:

(click on the image to enlarge it to full size)

A few Javicia links:

Her own website

Javicia Leslie on IMDB

Her demo reel on IMDB

Javicia Leslie on Twitter

Javicia Leslie on Instagram

My opinion:

I love the fact that all the predictions about who the new Batwoman would be were totally wrong….never ever I heard her name in all these past weeks.

Ok, I never have seen her on my TV so far, but it’s good that she has already some experience as a lead actress on TV.

So she knows about the workload that comes with it and is already used to it contrary to Ruby Rose was as she was Batwoman.

In my opinion Javicia is a little too small for the role (even shorter than Ruby) but ok, with the bat ears and the boots she will look a bit taller than she is 😉

It’s great that she does a lot of fitness and has experience in some martial arts, on her Instagram account you can find some pictures where she does different sports. I hope she will be able to do a lot of her own stunts.

I still bet that Javicia Leslie as “Ryan Wilder” will only be a temporary Batwoman and that Kate Kane will return in season 2 at one point. So, I’m sure this won’t be the “only” new Batwoman we will get to watch in this season. Perhaps she will then be a sidekick/partner in the field and fights alongside the Kate Kane Batwoman.

It seems that the new Ryan Wilder Batwoman is gay and Javicia is bisexual…..but to be honest, that’s not important to me. Totally ok.

However Javicia looks gorgeous and I can totally imagine her under the Batwoman cowl, looking forward to the first official images. I’m 100% sure we will get some pictures and a teaser at the DC Fandome event next month.

I will add more infos here when they arrive

What do you think of Javicia Leslie as Batwoman?

Feel welcome to leave a comment!

Batwoman news: New promo poster + DC fandome

Some Batwoman news from the last days:

A new promo poster has surfaced!

(click to enlarge to full size)

Obviously this is the full picture of the Batwoman picture that was in the original CW schedule promo some weeks ago:

(click to enlarge to full size)

The Batwoman picture was later replaced by a picture of the Batwoman signal.

3 things on this one are really interesting:

– Is that really Ruby Rose under that cowl? I am not sure! Looks odd.

– Batwoman never used such a rope in the show, she only used the grapel gun the swing around.

But the picture looks very similar to a famous comic cover:

(click to enlarge to full size)

– The cowl she is wearing on this promo poster is the version she had from episode 3-10. It isn’t the current one without chin strap and the unprotected neck.

I guess they made this promo picture for a release quite some time later.

But overall I really like the promo poster!

Sounds like a very interesting event in general and especially as we should get some real news on the second season of Batwoman!

I was never in San Diego for the comic con so this online event is a good chance for me to participate.

Ok, it’s not the same as a “real” comic con, but I’m really thrilled about it.

I expect some big news on the show. A short season 2 teaser would be great!

Also some casting news are most likely to be presented then.

Who will be playing this new Ryan Wilder character? ….would be the most interesting question that demands an answer!

Also any news on the storyline of season 2 would be highly welcome!

Looking forward to this event!

And hopefully we get some infos on season 2 in the meantime as well 😉

In general any teaser and trailers on DC shows or movies are also interesting off course.

Should be an interesting day with a lot of news!

New Batwoman page (Season 2 preview)

Batwoman news/rumors: Caroline Dries talks about why Kate Kane is replaced in the show

Post 1 of 2 for today

Ok, not really much of an explanation, but she shares some insights about the process:

https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/batwoman-kate-kane-exit-explained-caroline-dries-showrunner-cw/

Well, as she mentions that the scripts for several episodes WITH Kate Kane were already finished, I still hope there is a slim chance for them to reconsider that decision.

Perhaps the reactions from the fanbase might change that decision. Even it doesn’t really looks like it as Caroline Dries talks about the decision in public….

The situation right now is pretty …uncool.

Nearly no one likes the fact that Kate Kane won’t be Batwoman anymore. And at the same time we have not the slightest clue on how the show will continue. When I think about season 2 and how the story may continue….my head starts spinning.

I really hope there is a great masterplan behind all that……

As you may have read in my many long reviews on the episodes, I’m pretty happy about how season 1 has turned out.

Kate was THE crucial part in her role as herself and as Batwoman. Her connections with Alice, Mary and Jacob were the main foundation of the show.

– What will happen to Kate? Will she disappear like Bruce did? Or will Batwoman be killed in the first episode of season 2? Which they couldn’t really show in detail as Ruby won’t be in the costume. IF she gets killed….that would be the biggest possible earthquake for the show and its characters. I hope that she “just” disappears as this would leave the door open for a return later in the show.

– Kate got into the costume in the first episode. But with this new character, I think that it could take quite some time that we see her in the costume and ready to take over for Kate. I am pretty sure that Luke and Mary will stay on the show and will look out for a new candidate. When Batwoman is missing/dead the crime rate will certainly increase big time. So they can’t take too long to grief.

– With a new Batwoman it feels like a sort of reboot of the whole show as many developments from the first season gets completely shattered. I enjoyed how Kate and most of the other characters evolved during the season.

Again….I really hope there is a great masterplan behind all that…

I WANT to believe it!

Batwoman news: A new character seems to become the Batwoman for season 2!?

This post represent the knowledge on June 3, 2020.
Not so accurate anymore….
It strongly seems that not only Ruby Rose isn’t returning to the show, her whole character will be exchanged by some reports!
Which means that Kate Kane wouldn’t be the Batwoman anymore!
Instead the casting call for the new Batwoman character reads like this:
“….he new character is named “Ryan Wilder” (whether that’s a placeholder name is unclear) and is described as a woman in her mid-20s who “is about to become Batwoman.”
“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her,” the notice reads, according to Decider. “With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”
——
——–
I thought it would be some very quiet months after season 1 has ended and it was announced that season 2 won’t start until january.
How wrong I was!
First the news with Ruby ….and now this!!!!
Which now brings up so much more questions!
How will Kate Kane exit the show?
I mean, if Ruby isn’t there they can’t have any more scenes with Kate…only some scenes with Batwoman, where she is only shown from certain angles so it wouldn’t be 100% clear that it isn’t Ruby under that cowl.
So does Kate just leaves without any scenes at all in the first episode?
Or will Batwoman (the Kate Kane version) be killed in the very first episode of season 2?
I don’t think they can make this drastic change look any “good” in that first episode….
And having a completely new Batwoman would really make look season 1 ….bad. All these storyline would be ended so abruptly, that it would feel weird at least…
With the introduction of a new character the whole Kate/Alice/Mary/Jacob relationsships collapse. And the new Bruce Wayne storyline would make way less sense.
—–
I hope that somehow that isn’t true and WB/CW will make an official announcement that this news is “fake”.
I was somehow ok with Ruby leaving, even I thought she did make a good job.
But this now…..brings up some many question marks!
Will Kate Kane return at some point?
On Twitter I read the theory that this new Batwoman would be a temporary replacement and that Kate Kane would return at some point.
Well, ok, this could work, but why would they do it?
Right now they have enough time to re-cast Kate before they start filming….
*EDIT* …..UNLESS….they already have a Kate Kane/Batwoman! But that actress is bound to other projects for the next months/year and will join the show at a later point. Of course then Kate can’t be killed in the first episode of season 2….she would need to disapear.
The character would then return to the show and lead the team afterwards. (ok, just my wishful thinking 😉 )

Hopefully there will be more news on this very soon!!!

Batwoman: Casting news/rumors #1 – Wallis Day, Katy O’Brian, Peyton List?

This is post 1 of 2 for today!

After the smashing news that Ruby Rose has left the show more and more casting rumors are circling aroud the web.

Looks like the CW is (seemingly) looking for:

– an actress that already was/is on CW shows

– an actress that looks at least a little bit like Ruby

 – an actress from the LGBTQ community

– age and height are also criteria of course

– at least a good physical fitness ( I would say)

I read about some names quite often and wanna present the 3 of them that would fit in my opinion:

(without particular order)

Wallis Day

  • mostly known for her roles in Krypton and The Royals, Hollyoaks (no CW connections)
  • 25 years, 5ft 8 ½ (174 cm)
  • IMDB-link

(click to enlarge to full size)

Pros:

– a pretty tall woman, which would fit good to being a bad-ass vigilante (in my opinion)

– very young, a long perspective

– looks like she could be Alice’s sister

– LGBTQ (like the CW wants)

Minus:

– no CW connections so far

An artist already put her into the Batwoman cowl (an old version of it):

— Link to the artist —

My opinion:

Haven’t seen her so on the screen so far, but certainly a really good choice as she fits in mosts criterias!

———————-

Katy M. O’Brian

  • Mostly known from her roles in Walking Dead, Z Nation and Black Lightning (CW)
  • Age: UNKWON(!?!), 5’7″ (1,70 m)
  • IMDB link

(click to enlarge to full size)

https://twitter.com/i/status/1264021013789962241

^^^ She can kick some serious ass! ^^^

Pros:

– has played in a CW show

– extremely fit! Would make a highly believable ass-kicking vigilante!

– LGBTQ (like the CW wants)

– age seemingly fits(?)

Minus:

– was already in an Arrowverse show. Even her character seems to not appear again in Black Lightning….it might look at least odd for some folks to see her in another role in the Arrowverse

– doesn’t really look much like she could be Alice’s sister

My opinion:

Another good fit, especially with her highly trained body!  The aspect that she played another character in an Arrowverse show…might be a problem?

—————————

Peyton List (Peyton E. List)

  •  mostly known for her roles 90210 (Lindsey Beckwith), The Tomorrow People (Cara Coburn), The Flash (Lisa Snart/Golden Glider)
Charmed (Nadia) (all CW), Picard and Gotham
  •  33 years, 5ft 6 ½ (168 cm)
  • IMDB link

Pros:

– has played in a CW show

– looks like she could be Alice’s sister

– age fits, height is ok too

Minus:

– LGBTQ (like the CW wants) ????

– fit enough ????

My opinion:

Some question marks remain! But she does fit in most criterias.

————-

Other names I read VERY often these days were Stephanie Beatriz and Rachel Skarsten.

I don’t think they would fit at all.

Beatriz is already 39, way too old for such a highly physical role in a TV show that should last some seasons. And she wouldn’t fit at all to Alice and Jacob.

And the idea of choosing Rachsel Skarsten to play 3 roles as Alice, Kate and Batwoman…is beyond absurd 😆

I am wondering how far they actually are in the re-casting process?

However it will be highly interesting to see who they choose!

I will keep you posted.

Any comments on the 3 above?

Or do you have another suggestion that fits in the criterias?

Batwoman Special – Ruby Rose has left the Batwoman show!

*EDIT*

(This text represents the knowledge on May 20 – They seemingly developing a new character for the role as Batwoman)

This will be a rather long text…but I just have a lot to say about the latest news on the Batwoman show.

I woke up some hours ago I turned on my phone for a quick check if something interesting happened while I was asleep.

Oh boy! My jaw dropped right to the floor! Really? Is that news for real? No joke? Oh my…..!!!!

As a HUGE fan of the show, this news hit me like a train. And that after the news from last week with the January start date and the final episode of the season.

The lead actress of the show is leaving after season 1?!

This is something verrrry unusual as this just (normally) doesn’t happen.

I can’t think of many examples where that has happened in a TV show. OK, for example…in the Spartacus tv-show the main actor was replaced, but because he was very ill, as he had cancer. Certainly not a case that compares to this one. I’m sure there are some other examples, but not really from TV shows that I follow/ have followed.

Here is the statement of Ruby:

I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. I am beyond appreciative to Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created. Thank you Peter Roth and Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.

Here is the statement of WB:

Warner Bros. Television, The CW and Berlanti Productions thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best. The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.

Well, there are no reasons given for why she has left the show. Right now I can only speculate:

– Was it because of her injuries that forced her to leave nearly all action scenes to the stunt team? That was denied by some sources.

– Was it because of all the hate the show receives from the trolls and haters? Maybe

– Was it because she doesn’t feel good working on a TV show instead of movies as it is quite the difference?

– Perhaps it was too expensive to keep her? I would say no, as these contracts are surely made for a long run and not only for one season.

– Was the network not happy about her in the role?

Well, I do hope that at some point we may get an answer to why she left, but I think that won’t happen anytime soon

Actually, there were some signs that something like that might happen.

Oddly enough I thought some months back about the possibility of a recast for her role. But quickly I thought that things like that don’t happen, so I discarded that thought quickly.

I was wondering why Ruby was doing so few promo events in the past months. I mean Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson and Rachel Skarsten did make a lot of promo for the show…on their social media accounts, on takeovers on Instagram, promo videos on youtube and so on. And Ruby, as the lead actress….only showed up on rare occasions. OK, I thought about if she had some sort of clause in her contract that she doesn’t have to do such things. But I thought it was highly unusual.

Last week the CW released this promo image that I posted last week as well:

And I was thinking: Is that really Rube Rose on that picture as Batwoman??? I still think it isn’t Ruby Rose!

Last week I thought: Ok, Ruby couldn’t come to this promo shot because of the pandemic and all. I thought this might just be a random woman that was taken for a quick promo picture and they thought that no one would notice with the cowl on her head. But with the news that Ruby leaves the show….this image was perhaps a big, fat sign of the things to come….

What do I think about Ruby and her part on the show?

Well, I’m a HUGE fan of the show as you should know by now. And I will remain a HUGE fan until the end of the show, no matter what happens.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of her being chosen for the role….at first. I mean in her roles in Meg, Resident Evil (Final chapter), XXX 3 and John Wick 2 her acting….was ok for me, but there was certainly room for improvement.

But I think the role really grew on Ruby and her acting improved over the season to a good level. Yet, Ruby always remained somehow in the shadow of Rachel Skarsten in my opinion. Ok, that may be because of the role as Alice is very different of course and offers a bigger variety.

I really like Ruby as an actress and as a human, but I am not a hardcore fan like so many seem to be (15 million followers on Instagram alone!).

What does this mean for the Batwoman show?

Well, it will be VERY ODD to see someone else in that role! But I am sure that I will get used to it when they drop all the promo images and vidoes ahead of season 2.

I hope that I am already “used” to the new actress when the new season starts.

The recast of Kate Kane/Batwoman is a BIG DANGER …..and A HUGE CHANCE at the same time!

Everything depends on WHO they actually choose for the role! It can get a disaster…..but it can also be also be a BIG chance!

WB and CW now have to be really careful of who to choose.

*EDIT* After thinking about it for a while, I do understand the wish for an actress from the LGBTQ community, it makes sense and it will be an important sign.

I don’t have candidates right now, since I don’t know about 99% of the actresses if they are gay or not, as I don’t care about it.

My wishes for the casting would be like this:

– A rather tall and verrrrry well-trained actress, as it would fit really good to a crime-fighting vigilante (in my opinion)

– An actress with an already established fanbase that then follows the show as well (like with Ruby)

– A woman that looks at least a little bit like Ruby….so that the transition gets a little easier

Surely many of the trolls and haters that this show attracted with a lesbian, badass, jewish woman with short hair in the lead role….might celebrate this recast as some kind of “victory” of their pathetic, hateful, troll-agenda. But actually, if they cast wisely….this can turn into the stellar opposite….a smashing DEFEAT for those creatures.

It’s really sad how many folks are seemingly just on “social” media to spread their hateful opinions as they love to pull down others. But enough of that….

I know she won’t read it…but I just wanna thank Ruby Rose for all that she has put into this show. THANKS RUBY!

My limited English can’t really express how grateful I am for you being on the show. But you brought Batwoman and Kate Kane to life in your very own, unique way.

And whoever will follow your footsteps….you were the first Batwoman! I will never forget that 🙂

However, we will get a new actress for the role as Batwoman and Kate Kane and the show will continue!

Ruby Rose has left the show….but BATWOMAN will return!

*EDIT*

There has been a new article, that might why she did it:

https://tvline.com/2020/05/20/ruby-rose-batwoman-season-2-departure-scoop

Hard to say if that’s the truth unless it will be confirmed by someone.

Batwoman Special – Preview for the final episode of season 1 ….and more

Post 2 out of 2 for today!

I mostly recovered from the shock that Batwoman’s second season starts in January 2021 instead of the fall later this year.

Due to the Corona virus they simply can’t shoot soon enough to keep the usual fall start of (most of) their Arrowverse shows.

On the good side CW president Mark Pedowitz mentioned that they -nonetheless- intend to give the Arrowverse shows “full” seasons with up to 22 episodes.

Normally the CW shows which start in January only get up to 13 episodes so they would be all aired before the summer.

Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow starting even later in “midseason” which should be in March/April.

If these two will get short seasons with only 13 episodes….the other Arrowverse shows which start 2 or 3 months earlier in January…should have more episodes as they simply have more time to air episodes. IF all of these shows end around the same time which they should.

So, if Batwoman’s second season would get a full season with around 20 episodes, it would air until July or even August.

Of course I would love as many episodes as possible in this second season.

I would be already ok with 16 episodes….but 18 or more episodes would be really great!

To have to wait 3 months longer for new episodes is one bad thing.

But….IF we get a (nearly) full season after all, I would be very happy!

In the end the most important aspect is how many episodes the season will actually get.

———————-

Let’s focus on the final episode of the show, which will be shown on the CW today (starting tomorrow on the app/cw site)!

Here is the trailer:

With the knowledge of the last episodes, the synopsis and pictures for this final episode of the season…..this should become a worthy, tragic, emotional finale to this season!

What will Alice, Hush and Mouse do? Are they ALL willing to kill Batwoman?

Why do the Crows capture Mary?

Why is Kate crying? Something really horrible must have happened! Was she unmasked by the Crows? Was someone hurt or even killed that she cares for?

Will Sophie and Julia be able to save Batwoman (if needed)?

What’s with the kryptonite? Will it be used in some weapon? How will the villains get kryptonite?

Will someone not survive the episode?

I am soooo thrilled about this episode! I am expecting a tragic and dramatic episode with a solid cliffhanger at the end.

Also I’m sad about it….just as it is the last new Batwoman episode for nearly 8 months.

My favorite scenes from the trailer:

Batwoman Season 2 news…..

…and really bad ones this time:

Season 2 of Batwoman starts in January…not in the fall as planned. DAMN Corona!!!!!

Supergirl and Legends are starting even later….in “midseason”…I guess around March/April.

Now I’m depressed.
Luckily the day here is over soon.
